hField releases Wi-Fire™ for Linux
BETHLEHEM, PA-June 1, 2008: hField Technologies has launched a Linux compatible version of its Wi-Fire™ , a compact high-performance long-range USB WiFi Adapter. With its high-gain directional antenna and extremely strong receive sensitivity, Wi-Fire now gives Linux users the freedom to connect to WiFi networks when they want, where they want.
“Wi-Fire™ is the perfect device–lightweight and easy to use–for
the seriously mobile Linux user and those who have problems connecting
to their regular wireless network because of distance, obstacles or
other interference,” said Tom DiClemente, hField CEO. “We’re
dedicated to empowering people to connect better, faster and more
economically.”
From Linux kernel version 2.6.18, the Wi-Fire™ is basically plug and play. The setup/install is simple because major distributions like Ubuntu and Fedora Core are including the device ID by default. The Wi-Fire™ can be controlled through any network utility of choice, including knetmanager or ifconfig or iwconfig.
Linux users benefit from the increased mobility and greater range with faster speeds in comparison to other standard WiFi adapters, and it works with any 802.11 b/g access point. It multiplies the effectiveness of wireless networks by allowing users to connect to a WiFi network from up to 1,000 feet–more than three times the range of standard adapters–often at significantly higher speeds, and even in locations where no wireless signal could be detected previously.
WiFi users can now easily use the Wi-Fire™with Linux, Macintosh and on Windows platforms by configuring the appropriate software on each machine.
